About

Beginning as a modest display of entrant designs in the town square of Hastings, the Awards were started by the Hastings City Business Association in 2006. Now produced by the Hastings Art & Culture Trust, the awards have grown to attract attention from all over New Zealand, while holding true to the original vision for the event: “to nurture the creative ambition and design talents of our community, while celebrating Hawke’s Bay’s rich history of food production”.

Now into our 13th year and as the largest creative design show in Hawke’s Bay, the Awards are firmly embedded as a highlight of the Hawke’s Bay event calendar and attract up to 200 entrants aged 5 to 75+ and an audience of 1,000 to the event. Entrants are invited to create an innovative design made from edible food items, imitation food items or food packaging and often work on their designs for weeks or months leading up to the Awards.

As an event with a strong community-focus the Edible Fashion Awards is particularly proud to encourage and support participation in the arts by youth from diverse backgrounds. In 2015 we eliminated the entry fee and we continue to work closely with teachers and schools throughout Hawke’s Bay to encourage entries by individuals and teams in our schools categories.

With more than $12,000 in cash and prizes on offer, the standard of entries over the past few years have wowed audiences, judges and sponsors alike. The Edible Fashion Awards have become an important platform for talented local designers, with many past entrants going on to success at international design competitions like the World of Wearable Art (WOW) and/or to study and pursue careers in art, design and fashion.

The theme for the 2018 Edible Fashion Awards is “Peace, Love & Diversity” and the Awards will take place Friday 15 & Saturday 16 June 2018. Visit our GALLERY and HIGHLIGHTS CLIP to see what the Awards are all about.
